It has been more than a month since the last posting. Sorry!!!! This is really enjoyable for me to do but I've had several things that have been taking my time.
Since returning from the USA I have been in the throws of the visa process. Problems with visas frequently become the focus of most conversation when we get together.....who has their visa, who is waiting and what we think is the hold up. Currently I have a renewable visa that must be submitted monthly for extension while waiting for the resident visa to be granted. Apparently these extensions can only be granted three times before requiring me to leave the country. Hmmmm......I guess this wouldn't be all bad now would it?
We all have so much enjoyment going to these schools and seeing the delight in the faces of the children as they learn to color in the lines and cut. In this craft, they needed to cut the grass at the bottom of the picture and then it was glued on. The point is teaching good motor skill development and since many of the children have not used scissors before, this is a challenge with a good result to take home to their families.

Each of us looks forward to the time we can go to the school and make this little impact into this community.
We have one new lady, Tari, who has moved here and she is so willing to go with us and work with the kids. She is learning English. She is from Indonesia. She does not let communication difficulties bother her in the least. She is a champion to all of us of someone who will make her time here have meaning.
For the past several weeks we have not been able to go to the schools. This is because the presidential elections are scheduled for the 31st of this month and the school thought it would be better for the children to be at home in case of any demonstrations. Thus far there have been nothing of significance. We have missed our time with the children so much.

We have had several weeks that we could go to the schools to work. Here are some pictures of the projects we did for crafts. Note the delightful and trendy pasta necklaces. They were a very big hit. The challenge was learning the pattern of two pasta and one plastic ball......masa, masa, bolina (pasta, pasta, ball)

Hi, Margaret. I appreciate your blog so much. My son will be working on a 28 day rotation in Soyo and will be living on the Kwanda Base Camp. He is awaiting his visa at this time. It is taking a LONG time for the visa to come in, but apparently that is to be expected. I have been trying to find all information I can about where he is going but there isn't much out there. Your blog is very informative. Just wanted you to know that your blog has given me a little glimpse into "life in Soyo" and I appreciate it.
